RUNNING IN DUBAI

I recently had the pleasure of holidaying in Dubai for Christmas and as there is no Parkrun in Dubai, I found some great spots to run instead.

Dubai is a city of contrasts and innovation and serves up a plethora of fantastic traffic-free running adventures for residents and visitors alike.

From scenic coastal paths to lush parks, the city provides lots of diverse running options despite its desert climate.

BEST TIME TO RUN IN DUBAI

The ideal time to run in Dubai is early in the morning or early evening when the temperature is at its lowest.

I saw plenty of residents in the morning who were putting in the miles before work or tourists exploring before breakfast.

Your find it easier to run in Dubai from mid-October to mid-April when temperatures are more favourable.

While summer months can be challenging due to extreme heat, runners can still enjoy early morning or late evening runs with proper precautions.

Previously I had visited Dubai in September and I found it really hard.

TOP RUNNING LOCATIONS

Dubai is full of amazing places to run and boasts several excellent running spots.

Check out the following locations:

BEACH RUNNING ROUTES

ZERO RUNNING POINT RUNNING TRACK:

The Zero Point Running Track is a 5.1 mile pathway that showcases Dubai's renowned beaches and landmarks.

It begins at Jumeirah Beach, just past the iconic Burj Al Arab, and offers breathtaking views of notable sites such as Kite Beach and the Burj Khalifa.

The track comprises two lanes, with one lane featuring a soft rubber surface for enhanced comfort while running.

Along the route, distance markers are placed every 100 meters, and there are designated areas for water bottle refills.

THE CRESCENT ON THE PALM JUMEIRAH:

boardwalk at Jumeriah palm in dubai

The crescent is a semi-circular road which forms the outer edge of The Palm and was my favourite place to run in Dubai as it was just outside my hotel.

If you run along the boardwalk on The Crescent it is just over 4 miles long or 8.7 miles if you run a out and back.

You can also extend this by running over the bridge at the end of each boardwalk and along the shoreline path to extend the route to just over 7 miles in one direction or 14 miles in both directions.

Your find plenty of impressive hotels to look at like the Atlantis hotel and a gorgeous view of the Arabian Gulf.

PARK RUNNING ROUTES:

ZABEEL PARK

Zabeel Park is one of Dubai's largest and most popular parks.

Zabeel Park includes a 2.5km jogging track on the perimeter of the park and offers a central location with views of the Dubai Frame.

SAFA RUNNING TRAK

There is a running track that goes all the way around the Al Safa park, the track is about 3.4km.

DUBAI CREEK PARK:

A 2.5km rubberised track with creek views. It has a nice spongy earth-red track that is flanked with numerous workout stations along the way. Safa Park lies alongside the Dubai Water Canal.

RACES IN DUBAI

I was gutted there was no races on when I was visiting Dubai as it is so flat and warm it is perfect for fast times.

Dubai hosts several running events throughout the year including:

DUBAI MARATHON:

A flat, fast course starting at Umm Suqeim Road opposite the Madinat Jumeirah.

For those looking to combine sightseeing with running, guided tours are available.

I can highly recommend Go! Running Tours with Katherine who offers personalised running tours in Dubai.

I did the 12KM Skyline Sprint around the Dubai Marina and it was a great way to explore a part of the city I probably would not of gone to otherwise.

CONCLUSION

Running in Dubai offers a unique blend of urban landscapes, coastal views, and desert backdrops.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a casual jogger, the city provides diverse options to suit all preferences.

Remember it is really hot in Dubai so it is important to stay hydrated, run during cooler hours, and enjoy the stunning scenery that Dubai has to offer.

With its growing running culture and world-class facilities, Dubai is becoming an increasingly popular destination for runners from around the globe.
