Curious about trying cold water therapy without the expense of installing a permanent tub?
Inflatable and portable ice baths are making waves in the world of recovery, offering a portable and affordable solution for those keen on cold therapy.
Let's dive into the frosty details of these nifty contraptions.
WHAT ARE INFLATABLE ICE BATHS?
Portable ice baths are exactly what they sound like - portable tubs that you can inflate, fill with cold water and ice, and use for cold water immersion.
They're a brilliant alternative to permanent ice baths, offering flexibility and convenience for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone looking to reap the benefits of cold therapy
THE BENEFITS OF GOING PORTABLE
- Portability: One of the biggest advantages of inflatable ice baths is their portability. You can easily deflate, pack up, and take your ice bath with you wherever you go. This makes them ideal for athletes who travel frequently or those with limited space at home.
- Affordability: Compared to permanent ice baths, inflatable options are significantly more budget-friendly. They offer a cost-effective way to incorporate cold therapy into your routine without breaking the bank.
- Ease of Use: Setting up an inflatable ice bath is a doddle. Most models can be inflated in minutes using a pump, and they're just as easy to empty and pack away when you're done.

HOW TO USE YOUR PORTABLE ICE BATH
Using an portable ice bath is straightforward, but there are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Set up in a suitable area: Choose a flat surface, preferably outdoors or in a well-ventilated room.
- Fill with care: Use a hose to fill the bath with cold water, then add ice to reach your desired temperature.
- Time your sessions: Start with short dips of 1-3 minutes and gradually increase as you become accustomed to the cold
- Stay safe: Never use an ice bath alone, and always listen to your body. If you start shivering uncontrollably or feel uncomfortable, it's time to get out
HOW MUCH ICE FOR PORTABLE ICE BATH?
To prepare a portable ice bath, the recommended amount of ice varies based on the starting temperature of the water and the desired temperature for immersion.
I normally add 4kg of ice cubes that I buy from my local supermarket that are available in 2kg bags. I would probably add more but it becomes a little unpractical to keep buying large bags of ice and storing them in your freezer.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PORTABLE ICE BATH
Step by step tips how to clean your ice bath:
- Empty the water: Begin by draining all the water from the ice bath. Make sure to remove any remaining water that may be trapped in corners or folds.
- Rinse: Rinse the interior with clean water to remove loose debris and dirt.
- Clean: Use warm soapy water with a soft cloth or sponge to clean the surfaces gently, avoiding any abrasive materials that could scratch the tub. Try using the Lumi Scum Sponge. Do not use bleach as this may degrade the materials.
- Rinse Thoroughly: After cleaning, rinse the tub thoroughly with clean water to eliminate any soap residue. Pay special attention to edges and folds where residue may accumulate.
- Dry: Wipe down the tub with a dry cloth or towel to prevent moisture retention, which can lead to mould and mildew growth. Ensure it is completely dry before storing or refilling.
- No Chemicals: To prevent using chemicals in your ice bath, try using the Myomaster MyoZone. The Ozone kills bacteria and viruses instantly on contact and leaves no waste products that cause irritation or cloudy water like chlorine.
MAINTAINING YOUR PORTABLE ICE BATH
To keep your inflatable ice bath in tip-top condition:
- Rinse and dry thoroughly after each use to prevent mould and mildew.
- Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Check for leaks regularly and patch any holes promptly
Portable ice baths offer a flexible, affordable way to embrace the chill and boost your recovery.
Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a curious beginner, these portable plunge pools could be just the ticket for your cold therapy needs.
So why not take the plunge and give one a go? Your muscles might thank you for it!
