The LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath is a fully portable and insulated solution for cold-water therapy, featuring three layers of thermal insulation to maintain a steady water temperature.
Its compact design allows for easy setup and storage, making it perfect for those seeking an affordable and convenient way to incorporate cold-water immersion into their routine.
In this review, we explore its affordability, ease of setup, and the health benefits of cold-water therapy, including improved recovery and mental clarity.
SIZE OPTIONS
LUMI says the Recovery Pod fits individuals up to 6 feet tall. I am 6 foot and fitted quite comfortably.
If you are slightly taller it might be worth upgrading to the LUMI Recovery Pod Max, which is slightly bigger and caters for those up to 6 foot 7 inches.
WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH THE LUMI ICE BATH?
The LUMI Ice Bath includes:
- 1 x LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath.
- 1 x All weather cover.
- 1 x UFO Thermal lid
- 6 x Support stands.
- 1 x Extra fast air pump.
- 1 x Drain tap.
- 1 x Drain hose
- 1 x Air pump
- 2 x Repair patches
- 1 x Manual.
SETTING UP YOUR ICE BATH
Configuring the LUMI Pod ice bath is straightforward and takes less than 5 minutes.
Here are some initial steps.
SUPPORT STANDS
Insert the six support legs into the six holes around the base of the LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath.
Ensure the feet are at the bottom and fully supported on a stable surface.
INFLATABLE RING
Inflate the top ring using the supplied pump. Insert the pump fully into the valve, and inflate until smooth (do not over inflate).
Once inflated, seal the valve using the safety cap.
Repeat the same process for the UFO thermal lid.
DRAINAGE HOSE
Prior to connecting the valve, position the rubber seals and screw the valve on.
FILL IT UP
Ensure the base drain valve is sealed and hand-tight before filling with water.
Add cold water to the ice bath until it's about 20cm below the underside of the top ring. This usually takes 15 minutes. Water level will rise up as you enter the ice bath.
I added one 5kg bag of ice but you may want to add more if you want it colder.
I got the Lumi Thermometer to monitor the temperature.
UFO THERMAL LID
The inflatable UFO lid is designed to add a thermal bridge between the ice bath water and the external elements, keeping the water at a steady temperature.
This is also really good at stopping water pooling on the top when it rains.
SECURE WITH LID
Upon completing your ice bath, cover with the all weather lid and secure using the draw strings to as an extra layer to help keep rainwater, dust, and debris out of your ice bath.
HOW TO EMPTY
Emptying your Lumi Ice bath is really easy. Simply put the supplied hose on the white valve and open the valve to let the water out. The hose is only a couple of meters long but it is long enough to direct the water where you want it to go.
I do not use any chemicals when I use my ice bath and in the summer I often use a watering can to get most of the water out and to water the plants in the garden.
HOW TO CLEAN LUMI ICE BATH?
Cleaning is really easy. After emptying the water, rinse with clean cold water to get dirt and debris out. I bought the Lumi Scum Sponge to use with mild soapy water to scrub it. Give it a rinse and then dry it with a towel before filling it up with clean water or folding it away.
HOW MUCH IS THE LUMI ICE POD BATH?
The LUMI pod ice bath costs £95.
CONCLUSION
The LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath is a popular choice and compares favourably to other portable ice baths in several key areas, including its compact, lightweight design that makes it easy to set up and transport, a capacity and size suitable for most users, effective insulation and temperature control, durable construction, and overall ease of use.
While it may lack some advanced features of more expensive options, the LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath offers a good balance of affordability, portability, and functionality for those looking to incorporate regular cold water therapy into their routines.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THE LUMI ICE BATH?
I would recommend the LUMI Recovery Pod ice bath, however I would consider the Myomaster MyoIce ice bath instead, which is comparable in price but slightly better in size and accessories.
However, At the time of writing, the LUMI Recovery Pod has sold out on the Lumi website but you can buy the LUMI Recovery Pod MAX, a slighter bigger version, that is comparable to Myomaster MyoIce, in the sale priced £75, allowing users to experience the benefits of cold-water therapy without the need for a significant investment in high-tech or permanent installations.
