ZUIDERPARK PARKRUN REVIEW

Zuiderpark Parkrun had been on my list for a while and when I saw cheap flights come up to Rotterdam I jumped at the chance to tick off another 'Z' Parkrun.

FINDING ZUIDERPARK

It is really easy to find Zuiderpark Parkrun as it has a listing on Google maps so you just need to type in 'Zuiderpark Parkrun' into apps like Uber to get you there or follow directions on Google maps.

The copper building is really large making it quite hard to miss and as this is the easiest 'Z' Parkrun to get to from the UK you will see a steady flow of easily identifiable British tourists all making there way to the venue.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The public transport in The Hague is brilliant and so easy to use.

If you head to central station you can catch the number 9 tram straight to Zuiderpark. Simply get on the tram and touch your contactless debit or credit card on entry and exit.

In each carriage there is really clear and easy to understand screen to follow where you are and the upcoming stops.

MEETING POINT FOR BRIEFING

The run briefing takes place next to the large copper sportscampus Zuiderpark building.

The briefing was in mostly in Dutch but a short english version was also given.

The first timers briefing also takes place in the same place and was down in both English and Dutch.

COURSE

The course is a super fast flat course and apart from the finish, is all on tarmac.

It is normally a 2 lap course, but due to an event in the park, it was the alternative 3 lap course.

The course reminded me of Battersea Parkrun with lovely wide paths with very few corners that allow you to maintain your speed all the way round.

Pack your race day super shoes in your luggage as this is a PB course.

START

The start is a very short walk to the race briefing and is well signed.

FINISH

After completing your laps, just after where you started, turn right on to the grass following the cones to the finish tunnel. This is the only part of the course on grass.

COFFEE

I did not stay as I wanted to get back to my hotel for breakfast but there is coffee afterwards in the AV Spart canteen at the track.

TOILETS

The toilets are in the AV Sparta track next to the Parkrun, but they did not open until 9AM.

There were portable toilets dotted near the start you could use, but just an advanced warning, unlike UK portable toilets without getting too graphic you could see every previous toilet entry!

COST

The cost of Parkrun is FREE. You just need to register and take your barcode to register your time.

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?

Yes, I would love to come back and do the usual 2 lap course. It is super fast flat course with stunning views of the park.

THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND

  • There are quite a few geese in park, they are friendly enough but look out for geese poo on the grass.

WHERE TO STAY

I stayed at De Plesman hotel, which was a 30 minute tram journey to Zuiderman Parkrun.

KIT

I wore the following race day kit:
