The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 is a cutting-edge running shoe that has made significant strides since the popular previous third edition of the shoe.
Released in early 2025 with very limited stock, this latest iteration brings a host of improvements and innovations to the table, making it a formidable contender in the world of elite racing shoes.
The Pro 4 represents a subtle departure from the Pro 3, offering a softer ride and a less prominent forefoot rocker. The shoe has garnered praise for its improved comfort, responsiveness, and overall performance.
It draws inspiration from Adidas's high-performance racing shoe the PRO EVO 1 but is tailored for a broader audience, making it suitable for various paces but longer distances in particular.
THE HEEL

The heel of the Adios Pro 4 features a notably soft foam, which I found slightly unstable to begin with but soon got used to it.
It provides plenty of cushioning for various speeds but really comes into its own in the longer distances.
Adidas has addressed previous concerns about heel lockdown by adding extra padding to the heel counter, I did have some minor slippage but no rubbing.
THE UPPERS

One of the most significant improvements in the Adios Pro 4 is its upper. The shoe features a thin, soft material that conforms to the foot, offering a more premium feel.
The new LIGHTLOCK upper incorporates internal locking bands around the sidewalls and heel, providing a snug and supportive fit.
The overall comfort and fit is really impressive.
THE OUTSOLE

Adidas has replaced the full Continental rubber outsole with a new material called Lighttraxion.
This outsole design is based on studied strike patterns of top athletes, with traction strategically placed in key areas.
A section of Continental rubber remains at the toe-off point, maintaining durability in this high-wear area. The outsole thickness is notably thin at 1mm, which enhances the plush sensation of the midsole.
I do not find Adidas running shoe outsoles that grippy in general but they do last significantly longer than most other brands.
THE MIDSOLE

The Adios Pro 4 boasts a reformulated Lightstrike Pro foam that feels lighter, bouncier, and less dense than its predecessor.
The midsole incorporates a new forefoot rocker point geometry, placed at 60% of the shoe's length, which aims to trigger forward momentum and improve running economy.
This design change, inspired by the Adios Pro Evo 1, contributes to a more aggressive and efficient ride.
DOES IT FIT TRUE TO SIZE?
Probably my biggest frustration with Adidas trainers is their random sizing and the difference in sizing I have got with my usual size 9. My Adidas Prime Strung X 2 fitted perfectly, the Adidas EVO SL to big and the Adidas Pro 4 end up being to small!
I had seen other reviews saying you need to go 1/2 a size up with the Pro 4 as they are quite a tight fit, but I ended up going with my standard size 9 as that was the only size I could get hold of when they went live.
I had to send them back to get that 1/2 size up in the end as like others suggested they do not fit true to size.
I feel like I almost need a 1/4 size up? 9 was to small but 9 and 1/2 was just that tiny bit to big and I can get a little bit of slippage in them.
DOES IT HAVE A FULL CARBON PLATE?
Just like the Pro 3, the Pro 4 doesn't feature a traditional full-length carbon plate, it does incorporate carbon-infused EnergyRods embedded within the midsole.
These rods have been slightly modified in geometry to accommodate the new rocker point, continuing to provide a propulsive sensation during the run.
HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?

My UK size 9.5 weigh 209g, which is slightly heavier than Nike Vaporfly 3 but lighter than Nike Alphafly 3 as an comparison.
Considering the well cushioned midsole this is a really good weight.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
I am only up to 50 miles so far, so to early to tell but I will update this review when I have done more miles in them and ran a few races too.
HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?
In the UK they cost £220, which is inline with the previous edition.
CONCLUSION
For me, the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 represents a significant evolution in the Adios Pro line. I was not that much of a fan of the Pro 3 but this latest edition offers enhanced comfort, improved responsiveness, and a lighter construction compared to its predecessor.
While some runners may miss the explosive feel of the Pro 3, I found the Pro 4 to be a more well-rounded, comfortable and responsive option for races ranging from 5K to marathon distances.
As with any running shoe, personal preference will play a crucial role, but the Adios Pro 4 certainly seems poised to continue the success of this renowned racing shoe line.
It will be interesting to see if we see Adidas athletes racing in these or the PRO EVO 1.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?
Yes, especially if you were a fan of the Adidas Pro 3, I think your love the updates. Just bear in mind a few things.
- Go 1/2 a size bigger
- They take a few runs to bed in.
