The Nike Zoom Fly 6 is the latest evolution in Nike's popular plated trainer line. Proudly branded a "super trainer," it boasts technology and design features aimed at making tough training runs, tempo sessions, and even long races not only manageable but enjoyable.

With upgrades including a full length carbon plate, real ZoomX foam in the midsole, and a newly engineered upper, it positions itself as a versatile choice for runners seeking a blend of speed, support, and durability.

Read on to find out why.

THE HEEL

The heel of the Zoom Fly 6 is solidly built, with a structured design that provides notable support around the ankle and rearfoot.

The heel padding feels comfortable, much more cushioned than Nike's more race focused models, such as the Alphafly, but still firm enough to ensure a locked in feel that doesn't rub or slip during longer runs.

This makes the Zoom Fly 6 a great option for those who want marathon level comfort without sacrificing speed.

The high 42mm stack in the heel delivers deep cushioning and shock absorption, making it ideal for high mileage training and long runs.

THE UPPERS

The updated upper features a two layer woven mesh that cleverly balances structure, comfort, and breathability.

It fits snugly, just like a race shoe, but still manages to deliver the comfort of a daily trainer. There’s generous padding at the collar and tongue, offering a plush step in feeling without excessive bulk.

The engineered mesh locks down the foot well during fast turns but remains soft enough for longer sessions, while reflective details offer extra visibility

THE OUTSOLE

The outsole has been revised with a thin, webbed rubber layer, using a waffle like tread reminiscent of the popular Nike Pegasus.

I found the grip solid even during wet runs, adding confidence on slick pavements. It avoids the slippery feeling of some super shoes by blending tacky rubber with exposed foam to save weight.

Durability is a marked improvement, as the tougher SR-02 foam reduces premature wear, a common issue with more delicate racing shoes.

THE MIDSOLE

This is where the Zoom Fly 6 truly shines, boasting a dual foam construction with a top layer of Nike’s highly responsive ZoomX and a bottom layer of the firmer, more durable SR-02 foam.

Sandwiched between them is a full length carbon plate (FlyPlate) designed to enhance both propulsion and stability.

For the first time in the Zoom Fly line, real (not recycled) ZoomX is used, offering a noticeably bouncy, energetic ride without being overly soft or spongy. The result is a responsive yet controlled feel that works equally well for tempo runs and marathon paced efforts.

With a 42mm heel stack and 34mm forefoot, there’s ample cushioning for long outings, while the plate’s presence is subtle at slow paces but comes alive as speed increases.

HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?

My size 9 shoes weigh 265g.

IS IT A FULL CARBON PLATE?

Yes, the Nike Zoom Fly 6 features a full length carbon fibre plate (the 'FlyPlate') running the entire length of the shoe’s midsole, sandwiched between layers of ZoomX and SR-02 foam.

This plate enhances stability, provides a propulsive "spring," and helps with smoother transitions. However, it’s designed to be slightly more flexible than the rigid plates of Nike's racing shoes, so it feels more natural at daily training paces.

HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

The Nike Zoom Fly 6 shoes retail at £154.99 but.

CONCLUSION

The shoe shines during marathon paced efforts, yet remains forgiving on easy days and the plate allows for picking up the pace.

While its snug upper may not suit wider feet, it remains a standout option for neutral runners wanting the feel of Nike’s racing shoes in a more durable, reliable package.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?

The Nike Zoom Fly 6 is arguably the best iteration of the series to date, delivering serious upgrades in ride, fit, and versatility.

It's targeted at runners seeking a plated trainer for tempo and long runs, but its comfort and stability are good enough for daily use.
