The Cloudmonster 2 is a max cushioned daily trainer with a big stack (35mm) and a ride that leans towards firm. V2 adds a dual density Helion midsole with a 6mm heel to toe drop, a filled in channel underfoot (goodbye stone catching gap), and a roomier upper.
It still isn’t a featherweight, but it’s built for stacking steady miles with a rocker that helps you roll and a speedboard that offers high mile protection and stability that will get the job done run after run.
Out of the box they look fantastic. With that undeniable ON aesthetic. Massive pods and plush underfoot without being soft. The rocker kicks in early, transitions felt smooth, and the ride is more “springy firm” than bouncy. It’s a shoe I’d reach for on steady aerobic runs, long runs on tarmac and recovery days.
THE HEEL

The Heel has plenty of padding and no ridges or bumps that could caused heel rub or discomfort when I ran in them.
INSIDE

Fit is generous particularly in the toe box and overall volume. Runners with wider feet will love this shoe, however if you’ve got low volume feet like me then you could potentially size down half a size.
I went with my normal size and they are definitely on the roomier side. Step in is comfortable, heel hold is decent once the lacing is dialled, and there’s no intrusive arch.
THE UPPERS

The upper looks and feels premium, it is engineered mesh with loads of forefoot room. Breathability is okay rather than airy and ON state that the Upper is made from recycled material so that gets extra points for sustainability.
The Heel has plenty of padding and no ridges or bumps that could caused heel rub or discomfort when I ran in them.
THE OUTSOLE

On has increased and repositioned the rubber for better coverage and grip compared to V1, there is a generous 3.3mm of protection to chew through the miles and keep the soles in great condition.
Traction is reliable on wet pavement and light gravel, this isn’t a trail shoe, but it tackles some light off road without issue.
Filling in the mid foot void that V1 had reduces debris/stone collection and is very welcomed.
THE MIDSOLE

The dual density Helion midsole stacked with a nylon speedboard gives a protective and stable ride with a firm, rhythmic rocker without the trampoline bounce of PEBA super foams.
They are happiest at easy to steady long run paces but can handle light tempo work, however don’t expect much squish or explosive rebound when you get moving.
HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?
Not light. My UK 12 comes in at 300g, so it’s heavier than some modern max cushions, but you do feel the substance underfoot.
DO THEY HAVE A CARBON PLATE?
The ON Cloudmonster 2 does not have a carbon plate; instead, it uses a nylon-blend Speedboard, providing stability and powerful momentum for training runs.
MATCHING SOCKS
I paired the shoes with the ON Performance Run Mid Sock in Horizon/White colour, which I think works really well together.
COST
The retail cost of the ON Cloudmonster 2 is £170.

CONCLUSION

The Cloudmonster 2 is a maximal daily trainer for runners who prefer a firmer, rockered platform over pillowy softness.
Think smooth, steady turnover and reliable protection rather than trampoline bounce. If you’ve got wider feet or just want extra forefoot space it’s one of ON’s more forgiving and comfortable fits.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?
If you’re chasing low weight and springy energy return, there are racier options; but for repeatable long runs and high volume weeks on UK roads and paths, this is a durable, confidence-building workhorse with a uniquely “ON” feel.
