Hi I'm Vicky. I’m both a passionate, addictive runner and been running for around 8 years after falling in love with ultra running. I’ve been running competitively for around 5 years. Since running at a club, marathons have become my true love (and often leave me in happy tears at the finish line)! I’m currently training for the Bruges Marathon where I hope to get my first sub 3 after 2 practice attempts!

In 2024, I qualified as a yoga teacher in India and I now teach online classes that support runners with strength, mobility and mindfulness. I also run a health and wellbeing Instagram account where I share the highs, lows and everything in between when it comes to running, recovery, and staying well. Both physically and mentally. I also love to share honest reviews on trainers, clothing, races and tools that support my running journey.

PUMA DEVIATE NITRO 3 TRAINERS

I was really impressed with the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 shoe from the get go. There was no breaking in period needed and I have found them comfortable from the off.

Plus, I love the colour from this Puma x SAYSKY edition. I don’t always like the look of running trainers and see them primarily for performance rather than aesthetically pleasing, however I feel that Puma have got that balance between style and performance with these.

THE HEEL

The heel feels soft and secure, with no heel slippage or discomfort.

The added stack height gives a nice cushioning for long runs and the heel stays stable at all paces and corners as mentions previously.

There’s just enough padding to keep things comfortable over long distances without adding bulk.

THE UPPERS

The engineered mesh upper fits true to size and feels great. I often struggle with rubbing, hotspots and blisters, but I haven’t with these, even after 40+ miles.

The breathability is excellent, even during recent UK heatwaves. My feet stayed cool and didn’t overheat.

The gusseted tongue and padded collar provide secure, non-bulky support and a great fit.

Puma state that these are made with at least 30% recycled materials, which is a nice bonus for sustainability.

THE OUTSOLE

Traction is perfect. The puma grip outsole gives great grip across varied surfaces, ideal if you’re mixing tarmac, light trails or just running through wet conditions.

It’s one of the best outsoles grips I’ve felt in a plated shoe. Most of my runs incorporate trails and sharp corners and I feel these kept the balance and stability which I appreciated.

THE MIDSOLE

puma deviate nitro 3 midsole

This is where the shoe really shines. The NITROFOAM Elite (Nitrogen-infused) midsole feels soft but responsive and the full-length carbon-infused PWRPLATE adds noticeable propulsion without being harsh or too stiff.

What I like a lot about these is that they’re still comfortable on slower miles such as making them ideal for long runs, tempo and marathon pace efforts.

HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?

257g. A bit heavier than other carbon shoes, but not bulky on the run and are more supportive than others..

IS IT FULL CARBON PLATE?

Yes, the PWR plate is a full-length carbon infused plate, designed to stabilise the midsole and maximise energy transfer. It adds a nice spring when hitting marathon pace or faster, but remains forgiving and smooth during easier efforts, offering great versatility.

HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

RRP is £150, but I bought these from SportsShoes.com who have other colours from £89.99.

For a carbon plated trainer, they offer great value, especially for longer training sessions.

MATCHING SOCKS

Their was no obvious matching socks so I used the Black Active Crew socks from Versus Socks for a really smart combination.

CONCLUSION

puma nitro deviate 3

The PUMA x SAYSKY Deviate Nitro 3 is a versatile, stylish and reliable plated trainer that’s perfect for marathon prep. It’s slightly heavier than some super shoes, but far more forgiving, making it ideal for long runs and pace work.

I personally wouldn’t race in them, but they’ve quickly became my go to for big training sessions as I work towards a sub 3 at Bruges Marathon.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?

Absolutely. Especially for anyone training for a marathon and looking for a durable carbon option that doesn’t sacrifice comfort.

Fast, cushioned and I feel they’re built to last. Marathon prep gold.
