The Teva Aventrail R2T is a bold take on trail footwear, blending the freedom of a sandal with the cushioning and grip of a running shoe.
Designed with recycled materials, a responsive midsole, and a secure strap system, it’s built for light trail runs, hikes and everyday adventures.
While unconventional, it offers a surprisingly stable and fun ride if you’re wanting something different from your usual trail trainers.
THE HEEL

The heel section feels stable and secure thanks to Teva’s W strapping system, which locks in place with adjustable straps.
The sandals have padded section at the back which adds extra cushioning and helps prevent rubbing, creating a snug lockdown that holds up well when changing direction quickly.
Heel stability felt consistent across both trail runs and walks.
THE UPPERS

The uppers use a neoprene mesh under the straps, making them light, breathable and comfortable. They’re also eco-friendly, with 52% REPREVE recycled polyester straps and a recycled nylon/polyester mesh upper.
I really noticed how much the fit changed with small adjustments to the straps. If I didn’t fasten them properly, they felt noticeably less supportive.
The straps are customisable, which is great if your feet swell in warm conditions. However, I did experience some rubbing on the outer side of my left toe while running (not walking), which I imagine could become irritating on longer efforts.
THE OUTSOLE

The sandals spider rubber outsole which feature 3.5 mm lugs. I found the grip on these quite impressive, across mixed terrain including gravel, mud, uneven trails.
They’d likely perform well in wetter, muddier conditions too, though I wouldn’t personally choose them for deep mud.
THE MIDSOLE

The midsole uses Teva’s LITE-COMF foam, which feels responsive and durable. It offers a surprisingly plush ride, almost like a Hoka, but in sandal form which took a little time to adjust to that sensation.
Unlike the original Aventrail (which had Hyper-COMF and a nylon plate), the R2T has been stripped back for a lighter, more agile feel.
However, one downside is that without socks, my feet got dirty and this was quite uncomfortable as mud/gravel gets in through the sides and sits underfoot.
With socks, I occasionally slipped around inside the sandal, meaning I had to tighten the straps more than I’d like.
WEIGHT
At around 190g (women’s size 6), they’re pretty light for a trail shoe.

CONCLUSION
Yes, if you’re looking for something different.
They’re airy, cushioned, grippy and genuinely fun to run in. I have sensitive feet and didn’t get any blisters or hot spots, though my little toe rubbed slightly when I ran sockless. The raised toe box also worked surprisingly well at reducing the risk of stubbing your toes.
That said, they wouldn’t replace my daily trail shoes. For me, they’re a great option for lighter runs, hikes and everyday walks, a refreshing, unconventional choice rather than a full time trainer.
Recommendation: If you want something breathable, lightweight and a little out of the ordinary for mixed terrain adventures, these are worth trying. But if you’re after an everyday trail shoe, I’d stick with traditional trainers.
