For years, female runners have faced an impossible choice on race day: wear traditional split shorts and risk horrific inner-thigh chafing, or wear full leggings and overheat before mile 10. Thankfully, the running apparel world has finally caught up, and the women's half tight is now the undisputed king of marathon starting corrals.

A great pair of half tights solves everything. They protect your thighs, provide mild muscle compression, and—most importantly—offer flush, bounce-free pockets for your phone and energy gels. But get the wrong pair, and you will spend 26.2 miles awkwardly pulling them down as they roll up your legs.

Enter the Nedao Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights (6"). Nedao is quickly building a reputation for crafting ultra-lightweight, high-performance racing gear. Featuring an aggressive anti-slip hem, advanced moisture-wicking fabrics, and strategic cargo pockets, these 6-inch tights promise elite race-day performance.

But do they actually stay put, or do they ride up the moment you pick up the pace? I have been testing the VelocityX Pro half tights over intense track sessions and sweaty long runs to find out.

NEDAO VELOCITYX PRO (6") AT A GLANCE

  • Who it is for: Female road runners and marathoners who want zero-bounce phone storage and complete protection from inner-thigh chafing during long efforts.
  • The Experience: The 6-inch inseam is the "Goldilocks" length—long enough to cover the friction zone, but short enough to avoid looking like cycling shorts. The fabric is highly compressive but breathable, and the leg grippers lock the fabric firmly in place without aggressively squeezing your thighs (the dreaded "sausage leg" effect).
  • The Verdict: A masterclass in women's running apparel. If you are racing a half or full marathon and need to carry gels and a phone without wearing a bulky hydration vest, these are worth every penny.

WHO ARE NEDAO?

NEDAO is a performance running brand focused on technical clothing for runners, with its philosophy centred around removing the little distractions that can make running less comfortable—things like rubbing, bouncing, and poor-fitting clothing. The brand says it was founded from a desire to solve practical problems experienced by runners, rather than creating clothing for the sake of it.

HOW DO NEDAO DESCRIBE THE SHORTS?

NEDAO Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights 6'' with gels in pockets

NEDAO describes the VelocityX as a pair of performance-focused half tights designed to provide comfort, support, and practical storage for runners.

Some of the key features NEDAO highlights are its GhostDry sweat-camouflage fabric, which is designed to minimise visible sweat marks, four-way stretch, a high-waisted fit, anti-see-through fabric, and multiple pockets for carrying essentials.

They are designed to be suitable for everything from everyday training through to longer distance running and racing.

FEATURES

What NEDAO says they offer:

  • GhostDry sweat-camouflage fabric – designed to minimise visible sweat marks
  • Moisture-diffusion channels – help move moisture away from the skin
  • Fast-drying fabric – designed to dry quickly during exercise
  • Anti-see-through fabric – provides coverage even when stretched
  • Four-way stretch – allows the fabric to move with you
  • High-waist construction – designed to provide stability and a secure fit
  • Honeycomb anti-slip hem – helps keep the shorts in place
  • Reflective elements – added visibility for running in lower-light conditions
  • Skin-friendly fabric
  • Six-pocket storage – designed to securely carry essentials, including phones and gels.

I’ve worn these across a variety of shorter and longer runs, as well as in the gym, and they’ve performed well in all of them. One of the biggest positives for me is how well they stay in place. I haven’t experienced them riding up, rolling down, or moving out of position, so I haven’t needed to constantly pull them up or adjust them while training. They feel secure without being overly tight or restrictive, which is particularly important on longer runs.

I’ve had no rubbing or chafing, including on longer marathon runs. The combination of the fitted design and stretchy fabric means they move with you rather than feeling like they’re restricting your movement.

The GhostDry fabric was one of the features I was particularly interested in. I’ve worn these during some sweaty sessions and in the heat, and despite the fact they’re deep navy rather than black, the sweat really hasn’t been noticeable. I’ve previously worn different coloured running shorts where sweat marks have become visible, which isn’t something I particularly like. I was really pleased that this hasn’t been an issue with these. NEDAO specifically says the GhostDry fabric is designed to minimise visible sweat marks, and from my experience, this is an accurate description.

They also dry well and don’t become noticeably heavy or uncomfortable once you’ve sweated, or if I’ve chucked water over myself to cool down, which I think is particularly important for longer runs.

Another positive is that they’re not see-through at all. I haven’t had any concerns about the fabric becoming transparent when running or in the gym, and I also haven’t noticed visible underwear lines.

I think NEDAO has done a really good job of combining the technical features with a pair of shorts that feel comfortable and practical to wear, whilst looking nice.

DO THEY HAVE POCKETS?

NEDAO Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights 6'' side pocket

The pockets are probably my favourite feature of these shorts. There are six pockets in total, and they’re well thought out rather than just being added for the sake of having storage.

Where are the pockets?

  • 2 × side pockets – one on each thigh, ideal for things you want easy access to while running, such as gels or your phone.
  • 2 × rear waistband pockets – positioned at the back of the waist and useful for additional gels, keys, or smaller essentials.
  • 2 × front waistband pockets – positioned around the front of the waistband, giving you even more space for nutrition and smaller items.

The combination of the six pockets gives you a good amount of storage. You can comfortably carry your phone, keys, gels, and other essentials, and there’s enough space to accommodate a soft flask. I think they’re particularly good for long runs and marathon training, because you can carry pretty much everything you need without having to wear a running vest or additional running belt.

I like having multiple pockets rather than putting everything into one large pocket. It makes it much easier to organise your things and access what you need during a run, while distributing the weight across the shorts rather than having everything concentrated in one area. Even when I’ve filled the pockets with gels and my phone, I haven’t found that they feel weighed down or that the shorts lose their shape or move around.

SIZE GUIDE

I’m usually a UK size 8/S, but NEDAO uses Asian sizing, so I went for a medium rather than my usual small.

The medium fits me well, but I would recommend checking the NEDAO size guide carefully before ordering, particularly if you’re used to UK or European sizing.

DESIGN

NEDAO Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights 6'' back view

The design is one of the things I really like about these shorts. They have a flattering, fitted shape without feeling overly tight or restrictive, and I love how they sit around the waist.

What makes them a little different from a lot of running shorts is the ribbed texture. I haven’t previously owned a pair of running shorts with this type of finish. It gives them a more interesting look than a standard pair of plain running shorts. I think it makes them look nice, and I’ve had a few compliments on them, which is always a good sign!

The 6-inch length works well for me too. It provides a little more coverage than shorter running shorts without feeling long or restrictive. They still feel lightweight and allow plenty of freedom of movement, while the longer length gives them a slightly more structured and flattering look, plus it reduces the risk of any leg chafing.

COLOURS

I’m reviewing the deep navy, which I really like. It’s a little softer than black while still being easy to pair with different running tops.

The current colour options listed by NEDAO are:

  • Black
  • NEDAO Blue
  • LightSpeed Yellow
  • Frost Green

Colour availability can vary, so it’s worth checking the product page when ordering.

WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?

NEDAO Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights 6'' colours

Fabric composition:

  • 75% Polyester
  • 25% Spandex
  • Four-way stretch
  • Moisture-wicking / moisture-diffusion properties
  • Fast-drying fabric
  • GhostDry sweat-camouflage technology
  • Anti-see-through construction

The combination of polyester and spandex gives these shorts a good balance between structure and stretch. They feel fitted and secure without restricting movement, which I’ve found particularly useful when running and during gym sessions.

The four-way stretch means the fabric moves with you rather than against you, and I haven’t found the shorts to feel tight or restrictive even during longer runs.

I’ve also been impressed with how they deal with sweat. I’ve worn them in the heat and during some very sweaty sessions, but they haven’t become heavy or uncomfortable. As mentioned in the feature section, the GhostDry technology is designed to reduce the appearance of sweat marks, and I’ve found this genuinely noticeable in practice.

The fabric also holds its shape well. Despite being stretchy, the shorts don’t feel like they’re becoming loose or losing their structure during a run.

WHERE TO BUY

You can buy these directly from the NEDAO website.

IS THERE A MALE VERSION?

Yes. NEDAO makes a Men’s VelocityX pro half tights, although there are some differences between the men’s and women’s versions.

The women’s version has a 6-inch inseam, while the men’s version has a slightly longer 7-inch inseam. The men’s version also has a five-pocket system, compared with six pockets on the women’s version.

PROS & CONS

The Good The Bad
  • Silicone leg grippers prevent the shorts from riding up mid-run.
  • Deep side pockets hold a heavy smartphone completely flush against the leg with zero bounce.
  • Seamless front construction eliminates uncomfortable camel toe.
  • The 6-inch inseam might still be a fraction too short if you prefer a true 8-inch biker short style.

PRICE & DISCOUNT CODE

These shorts currently retail at £64.00. However, if you use the code ADW_15 at checkout, you get 15% off, bringing the price down to £54.40.

At £54.40, I think they offer good value for money, particularly given the quality of the shorts, the six-pocket storage, and the fact that they’re suitable for everything from shorter training runs through to long runs and marathon training.

CONCLUSION

NEDAO Women's VelocityX Pro Half Tights 6'' with matching NEDAO vest

These have very quickly become one of my favourite pairs of running shorts. I love the way they look and fit, and I think the combination of the ribbed design, 6-inch length, and fitted shape makes them really flattering. They feel secure without being restrictive and, having worn them across shorter runs, longer runs, and gym sessions, I’ve had no issues with rubbing, riding up, or chafing.

But for me, the pockets are the real standout feature. Six pockets might sound excessive, but once you’ve got your phone, keys, gels, and other essentials with you, you realise just how useful they are. I love being able to carry everything I need for a long run without having to wear a running belt or hydration vest, while still having everything organised and easy to access.

I think these are a great option if you’re looking for half tights that are practical as well as flattering. They combine a comfortable, secure fit with good coverage, plenty of storage, and some useful technical features. For me, they’re particularly well suited to long runs, marathon training, and anyone who likes to carry plenty of fuelling without wanting to run with a belt or vest.
