The Bimble & Bolt 3D soft race vest is advertised as a lightweight, breathable, race ready option.
It is designed to move with you and suitable for everything from a little bimble to racing. Made from soft 3D premium recycled PES and weighing just 39g (size S), it promises to be featherlight, sweat wicking and built to breathe.
As a female runner with sensitive, chafe prone skin, I’m always cautious with new running kit, but from the very first run, this vest exceeded expectations.
I’ve tested it across distances from 5K to 16 miles, including tempos and Parkrun, and it has been perfect each time.
FEATURES AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Straight out of the packaging, the quality stands out. The fabric feels incredibly soft and smooth, the weight is almost non existent, and the laser cut seams give it that premium race day finish.
It’s one of those items that you put on and instantly feel faster, lighter and confident. It oozes quality and I’ve also had a few people comment on the design since wearing it which is always great for the ego.
SIZE AND FIT
I chose a size XS, which corresponds to a women’s UK 8.
At 5ft 2.5”, the fit is exactly what I want from a running vest, light, streamlined and supportive without feeling restrictive.
It sits just below my waist and there are no gaping areas, especially under the arms where I’m usually prone to rubbing.

The standout feature is easily the 3D mesh fabric. It’s incredibly breathable and sits comfortably against the skin.
As someone with sensitive skin, I’m always expecting a little irritation, but I’ve had zero chafing, even under the arms and along the seam lines.
It doesn’t hold moisture even on sweaty long runs, it stayed light, dry and comfortable.
In my opinion, this would be an ideal choice for summer races, tempo efforts or hot marathon training blocks.
PERFORMANCE
Across all my training runs from short sessions to 16 mile long runs, the vest has felt comfortable, weightless, breathable and supportive.
It regulates temperature well, moves naturally with the body and genuinely adds that race day feel.
Personally, although it performs great in training, it feels so premium that I’d likely save it for races or key sessions. And parkruns off course!
PRICE
At £46, I think this is great value for money.
Comparable race vests from bigger brands can cost significantly more without offering noticeably better performance. For the quality and durability, it’s superb.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
To keep the vest in its best condition, Bimble and Bolt recommend:
- Wash at 30°C on low spin
- Use a wash bag if possible
- Wash with similar colours
- Avoid abrasive surfaces (e.g Velcro)
- Do not bleach or dry clean
- They also offer a 60 day return policy, which is reassuring.
CONCLUSION
The Bimble and Bolt 3D soft race vest is a brilliantly designed, ultra light, race ready piece of kit. It’s breathable, fast feeling (for that psychological edge) and genuinely comfortable, even for sensitive skin.
The quality is perfect, and it performs exactly how a race vest should, cool, weightless and confidence boosting.
