My name is Justine, I am an avid runner and co-run an Instagram account with my close friend Vicky (@girlsreallyrun).
I have spent much of 2024 mixing up my training due to a chronic hip condition which has meant I have had to vary my training load.
As part of that change, I have had to try and achieve the same fitness gains through other means like cycling. A good way to keep tabs on my fitness trends and performance data is to track my heart rate zones and build my routine around those metrics.
Being able to accurately track my heart rate data has therefore become a more important focus for me during this training block. I have reached the point where my inbuilt heart rate tracking my watch provides isn’t reliable enough to build my training around, so incorporating the Wahoo TRACKR has been exciting.
ABOUT THE WAHOO TRACKR HEART RATE
The Wahoo TRACKR HEART RATE is the latest release by Wahoo in chest-based heart rate tracking.
The specification is geared towards anybody that wants deeper insight into their performance data and looks to provide accurate heart rate tracking and calorie burn data.
It offers a range of metrics including current heart rate, maximum heart rate and heart rate variability scores (where used on a compatible app).
DESIGN
The tracker is slick and simple in design and not overly bulky which means you can wear it quite easily under a running vest and it not be overly pronounced through the front of your clothing.
I actually found that tucking mine under my sports bra provided additional support and makes it barely visible to others.
The monitor itself can be clipped on and off making it very easy to clip on once you have the strap fitted comfortably.
THE STRAP
The adjustable strap is very easy to take on and off with one small clasp to loop on and off as needed. It is separate to the monitor so can be taken on and off by itself.
The strap is relatively slim and easy to alter even once you’ve begun a workout. Once set to the desired point, it doesn’t then move unless you actively look to alter it.
This is great for holding the sensor in place and I haven’t had any connection/reading issues once on.
COMFORT
The TRACKR HEART RATE is lightweight, comfortable and slim. I haven’t experienced any issues with rubbing or chafing during a range of workouts including easy runs, hard runs, indoor turbo training workouts and while at rest. It is in fact easy to forget you are wearing it once you have put it on which is ideal.
THE SET UP
Setting up the TRACKR HEART RATE was surprisingly easy straight out of the box.
As soon as I plugged it into my laptop to check the charge, it begun to flash and look for nearby devices to connect to. I didn’t have to do any long-winded searches and pairing. My smartphone immediately found is on Bluetooth and ANT+.
The TRACKR HEART RATE also has LED status lights. These are great for confirming connection status and battery life without having to login to various devices to check your connection.
THE BATTERY
The TRACKR HEART RATE has an excellent rechargeable battery. Wahoo state that it holds 100 hours of active battery life. I am yet to have to recharge it.
This is extremely useful as I always forget to charge my training devices and spend a long time then having to charge things up before I can head out the door.
The battery life on the TRACKR HEART RATE means I am not having to constantly worry about recharging.
CHARGING
The charger is excellent. The two metal charging prongs are magnetic, so it doesn’t detach once plugged in.
ACCURACY
The TRACKR HEART RATE seems to offer a high level of accuracy. I haven’t experienced any sudden spikes in heart rate data which can be an issue with other trackers.
The data seems consistent with expectations of where my heart rate should be and means I can rely on it much more than my watch.
COMPATIBILITY
The TRACKR HEART RATE connects perfectly with Wahoo’s own app, Strava, Garmin and MyFitnessPal.
This is great for being able to use it for more than just one activity type and gives you lots of options. It offers 3 separate Bluetooth connections simultaneously which means you can track across three devices at once!
If you don’t have the other third-party apps installed, it offers great workout and tracking options on the Wahoo app such as run and cycling recording in one place.
DURABILITY
The TRACKR HEART RATE feels durable. It’s sweat-proof and water-resistant and easy to clean post workout. I have used it for a few weeks now and it doesn’t seem to be carrying any odour from previous sweaty sessions.
I have found that because the strap is also water-resistant I can easily handwash it as soon as I’ve used it to prevent potential build-up of odour.
WEIGHT
The Wahoo TRACKR HEART RATE monitor weighs 40g with the strap attached.
VALUE
The Wahoo TRACKR HEART RATE retails for £79.99.
I think this is a good price point when factoring in the accuracy, comfort and ease of use.
You can buy it direct from the Wahoo website.
CONCLUSION
The Wahoo TRACKR HEART RATE is great value for money in my opinion. The data is accurate and very useful when trying to incorporate some heart rate zone-based training and keeping those “easy” workouts easy.
It’s comfortable once adjusted to the right size and very easy to forget you have it on once you get going.
WOULD I RECOMMEND IT?
I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to up their game and track their heart rate more accurately at a reasonable price.
