10 Questions With Run Like Heller

Emily Heller is an age group runner from Long Island, New York in the USA and is behind the popular YouTube channel Run Like Heller.  

1 - When Did You Start Running?

I started running in 2012, when my best friend and I decided to do a triathlon relay.

2 - What Is Your Favourite Race?

My favourite race I’ve ever done would be the New York City Marathon.

There’s nothing like it. The crowd is absolutely electric.

3 - What Motivates You To Run?

Running really helps me with stress. If I don’t run or do some type of exercise, I feel a bit anxious and mentally off balance.

That calm feeling after a run is what motivates me to get out the door.

4 - What Is Your Favourite Go To Session?

Honestly, my favourite thing to do is just running for fun. Structured workouts are great but running to just enjoy the moment is the best part.

5 - Are You Currently Working Towards A Race Or Have A Goal In Mind?

Right now I don’t have any running goals or big races I’m training for.

Perhaps further down the line I will begin training for another marathon. But right now I’m just running for fun.

6 - What Is Your Favourite Race That You Look Forward To Every Year?

My favourite race that I look forward to every year would be the Cow Harbor 10k.

I don’t get to do it every year but I enjoy doing it so much! It’s a big event locally.

7 - If You Could Only Choose One Pair Of Trainers To Train In, What Is Your Weapon Of Choice?

If I could only run in one shoe, it’s tricky. I would want something versatile, so perhaps the Saucony Endorphin Speed.

That way I could use it for long distance runs, speed workouts, and for races as well! There are so many I would love to pick, though. This is a tough question!

8 - Are You A Fan Of Super Shoes For Racing?

I am a fan of super shoes and racing! Not sure I could run a marathon in a true super shoe, but I love using them for local races.

I also do love racing, though lately I’ve been taking a little bit of a break from being competitive. It’s been a nice hiatus.

9 - One Tip Every Runner Should Know About?

I have two.

The first is to listen to your body. If you feel tired, rundown, or like your body needs rest, LISTEN TO IT.

You’re doing yourself a disservice by running yourself into the ground (literally) the other is to have fun!

If running isn’t feeling fun then you need to do some soul searching as to why that might be.

Maybe explore what would make it fun, or take a little bit of a break.
