Sudbury Friday 5 Mile Series Review

The Bob French Sudbury Friday 5 mile race is part of the 6 race Friday 5 Series that also includes races in Felixstowe, Framlingham, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Great Bentley.

sudbury friday 5 course

I should have done some homework and checked out the course before I ran because for some reason I thought it was flat, I went off like a bull in a china shop hoping for a fast time and it was anything but flat!...

This is a tough undulating course but it does have some down hill sections to get some speed back but don't expect personal bests on this course.

The first section is slightly deceiving as it is flat and fast until at 1.5 miles you turn left in to Kedington Hill, which feels like it increases in elevation for the best part of a mile!

The undulation continues until mile 3 and then levels out for the rest of the race with only some minor dips.

It is a lovely well supported course, just don't expect it to be fast unless you are suited to tough undulating courses.

sudbury friday 5 medal

There is a Sudbury Joggers medal that doubles up as a bottle opener!

There is plenty of parking with a overflow car park on the field of the sports centre.

Toilets are in the Sports Centre and do get busy in the minutes before the race so get your toilet stop completed on arrival.

Who Organises It?

It is organised by Sudbury Joggers.

How To Enter?

You can enter via the main Friday 5 Series website and you can also see dates and venues for all 6 races in the series.

You can find the results on the race results website. You can change the drop down to find the results for all races in the series.

Would I Enter Again?

Yes, it was superbly organised and the sort of small local races I love to enter organised by local clubs.

Things To Bear In Mind

  • You collect your number on the night so arrive with time to spare as the que is quite long.
  • It is part of a 6 race series and you need to complete 4 races out of 6 to be part of the league.
  • You can not wear headphones or bone conducting headphones

I wore the following race day kit:

Top: My club t-shirt
Shorts: Nike Run Division 3 in 1 Shorts
Compression Socks: Bauerfeind Performance Compression Socks
Trainers: Nike Alphafly 1
Watch: Garmin 245
