Simba markets its hybrid mattress topper as a premium way to upgrade an existing mattress without the cost of buying a new one. Rather than simply adding a soft layer, Simba focuses on a combination of foam and spring technology designed to improve comfort, support and airflow.

At the centre of the design are Simba’s Aerocoil micro springs and Simbatex foam, which the brand claims work together to provide responsive support, pressure relief and better temperature regulation. Alongside this, Simba highlights strong customer reviews, industry awards, a 200-night trial, a 10-year guarantee, and its B Corp certification, all of which are used to position the product as a high-quality, long-term sleep solution.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The Simba hybrid mattress topper arrived vacuum packed in a relatively compact box. It is quite heavy, but I was able to carry it upstairs and set it up on my own without any issues.

Once unboxed and unrolled, it expanded quickly. The elastic corner straps made it easy to secure to the mattress, and once fitted, it stayed firmly in place without needing adjustment.

Straight away, it was clear it was a quality topper. Instead of feeling like a basic foam topper, it feels much closer to a slim mattress. The materials feel solid, the cover is soft to the touch, and overall, it gives a premium, well-finished impression. It is not lightweight, but that adds to the sense that it is designed to last.

I didn’t find any care instructions in the box but based on Simba’s website I left it for around five hours before making the bed to allow it to fully expand.

Before trying it, I wasn’t sure I really needed a mattress topper, as my mattress is already comfortable. However, after the first night, I could feel the difference. It added a layer of comfort without making the bed feel overly soft or too warm.

FEATURE

• The topper is 6.5cm deep and is made up of four layers that work together to add comfort and support.
• The top layer is made from Simba’s simbatex foam, which is designed to cushion your body while allowing air to circulate, helping you stay cool during the night.
• Beneath that is a layer of small aerocoil pocket springs that respond to your movements and provide extra support where your body needs it most.
• Underneath that is a supportive foam base layer, which helps keep the topper stable and prevents it from sagging or losing shape over time.
• The cover is soft, removable and machine washable, making it easy to keep clean. On the underside, there is a non-slip base combined with elastic corner straps, both of which help keep the topper securely in place on the mattress.

From my experience, the corner straps made a big difference. Once fitted, the topper didn’t shift at all during use.

SIZES

The Simba hybrid mattress topper is available in all standard UK sizes:

• Single – 90 x 190cm
• Small double – 120 x 190cm
• Double – 135 x 190cm
• King – 150 x 200cm
• Super king – 180 x 200cm

I tested the king size, and it fit my mattress perfectly. The corner straps stretched easily over each corner and kept everything firmly in place with no movement during the night.

COMFORT AND SUPPORT

The topper has a good balance between softness and support. The combination of foam and micro springs creates a surface that feels cushioned without the sinking sensation you can get with traditional memory foam toppers.

As someone who mainly sleeps on my side, though sometimes switches to my back, I noticed good pressure relief around my shoulders and hips. At the same time, I still felt properly supported rather than “sinking” into the bed.

One unexpected benefit was when sitting up in bed reading. Before using the topper, I would often get some back discomfort after reading for a while. Since adding it, I’ve been able to sit up for longer without that issue, which was a noticeable improvement.

The topper seems to enhance comfort without dramatically changing the feel of the mattress underneath, which I think will suit a lot of people who want an upgrade rather than a complete change in feel.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION

One of my main concerns before testing was whether adding another layer to the bed would make it too warm at night. I get quite hot at night, but throughout testing I didn’t notice any overheating. The topper felt breathable, and I stayed at a comfortable temperature each night.

Compared to traditional memory foam toppers I’ve used before, this one felt noticeably cooler. While everyone’s experience will vary, I was pleasantly surprised that it added comfort without trapping heat. If you usually avoid mattress toppers because of overheating concerns, that wasn’t an issue for me here.

PROS AND CONS

PRICE

The topper sits at the premium end of the market, so it is more expensive than many standard foam alternatives. The king size I tested has a recommended retail price of £399, although Simba often runs promotions.

At the time of writing, Simba are offering a 26% discount for NHS staff, emergency services, military personnel, social workers and students, once eligibility has been verified. This would bring it done to around £295.26, which makes it even more appealing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper get hot? No. While standard, cheap memory foam toppers are notorious for trapping body heat and causing night sweats, the Simba Topper is designed specifically to prevent this. It uses a breathable Simbatex foam layer and open-pocket Aerocoils that allow air to circulate freely under your body.

Will the Simba Topper slip off my bed during the night? No. Simba has solved the age-old problem of shifting mattress toppers by including wide, elasticated corner straps that hook tightly under your main mattress. The underside of the topper also features a grippy, non-slip base material, ensuring it stays perfectly in place.

Can you wash the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper? You cannot wash the actual foam and spring core, but the soft top cover is fully removable via a zipper and is completely machine washable, making it very easy to keep your sleeping environment fresh and clean.

CONCLUSON

After four weeks of testing, the Simba hybrid mattress topper has been impressive. Going into this, I wasn’t convinced I needed a mattress topper at all, and I also didn’t think it would make much difference.

My mattress was already comfortable, so I didn’t expect a huge difference. However, it has added a noticeable improvement in both comfort and support without changing the overall feel of the bed too much.

It manages to get a good balance. In that it is soft enough to improve pressure relief, but supportive enough that you never feel like you’re sinking. It also performs better than expected in terms of temperature regulation, which is a big plus if you tend to sleep warm, which I do.

It is certainly a premium product, and the price reflects that. However, the quality, comfort and generally feel and performance does make it feel like a long-term investment rather than just an accessory.
