The classic Polar Vantage M debuted in 2018 as a low-cost version of the premium Vantage V gadget.

Although both were designed for serious athletes, the V featured a greater battery life and only a few additional hardware components.

However, the Vantage M was a powerful, straightforward multisport watch. The Vantage finally received an upgrade after two years with the launching of the Polar Vantage M2.

While the current iteration's design changes are minor, it boasts a few new functions. So how do the Polar Vantage M2 and M Watch compare?

What Is the Difference in Batteries?

Both sports watches work with IOS 13.0, 14.0, Android 6.0 or later. Both the Polar Vantage M2 vs M watch have Bluetooth and message receive functions for accepting and rejecting incoming calls. Together with the heart rate sensor and GPS usage, these can affect battery life.

However, the battery on both versions may last up to 30 hours. As a result, they are comparable in this regard as well.

Still, the Vantage M2 offers a function that allows you to alter the interval at which your data is recorded, allowing you to prolong training time to up to 100 hours.

What Is the Difference in Weight?

A common question is how snugly the wristwatch should fit on the wrist. The smartwatch's weight varies depending on its components, but it is critical for watch-wearing comfort.

The Polar Vantage M2 and M watch share the same dimensions in size 46 x 46 x 12.5 mm, 45g, and the total weight without wristbands of 28g.

What Is the Choice of Colours?

The recent Polar Vantage M2 comes in three colours; brown copper, black-grey and gold champagne. This colour variation compares to the all-around multisport Vantage M, which comes in only black.

What Is the Difference in Price?

The Polar Vantage M2 is priced at £259.00, while the Vantage M sells for £239.00 in the UK.

But as an older model, the vantage M, you can find some nice prices in discount or clearance sales.

The Difference in Features?

Little has changed on the interior, and there have been no mentions of upgrades or additions. And surprisingly, many specifications are nearly identical.

The M2 weighs half a gram more, and Polar deserves credit for including that. But, except for a few minor casing features, the battery, screen, and size are all the same.

However, there are some noteworthy variations on the software side. Almost all of these features were seen on the Vantage V2 and Grit X last year, except 'Energy Sources' and 'Weekly Summary,'.

What Is the Difference Between Polar Vantage M2 vs M Watches?

The two smartwatches may look similar, but they have some differences.

Below is a concise list of features on the Polar Vantage M2 but unavailable in the Vantage M.

  • Added watch face customisation - This customisation feature is fantastic. You can select among the watch faces and choose which ones are also convenient. Garmin refers to them as widgets, and Polar labels them as watch faces. The difference is that Garmin returns to the original watch face after a timeout. However, you can 'stay at it' with Polar watches.
  • Added music control but no storage - A music control option will be available on the M2 (and the de Grit X). There is no storage to save music on the device. However, you can use the buttons on the watch to navigate any music app you use. The Vantage M2 does not support touch.
  • New straps and colours - There are also new straps. The Vantage M2 boasts the 22mm quick-release strap you can replace, which is the industry standard. The redesigned strap allows you to charge the watch by placing it flat on its back. Not only have the colours altered, but the material too. It's a softer, stretchier silicone.
  • Weekly workout summary - The Polar Vantage M2 watch face displays your total exercising effort in the previous week. It offers more detailed info about HR zone and exercise, as also distance covered and calories burned.
  • Energy sources - This one is intriguing and is also accessible on the Flow app. The Energy Sources section explains what your body utilises as fuel to provide energy. Is it fat, carbohydrates, or protein? The Energy Sources will provide insight into the outcomes of your training, for instance, if you want to burn fat.
  • HR broadcasting - HR broadcast is an excellent addition to the M2. Polar adds the feature to broadcast your heart rate via the watch, a function available on Garmin and other Wahoo watches. Polar Vantage M2 is a great choice if you are looking to broadcast HR to a smart trainer or during outdoor runs. If you're riding with Zwift or a computer, you can use your watch as an HR monitor or even during recording.

Other features unavailable in the Vantage M include:

  • Weather forecast
  • FuelWise
  • 100 hours of training time

The Polar Vantage M is a tough, light multisport fitness tracker that excels at running.

You should go for the Vantage M if the extra functions mentioned above don’t matter to you.

It offers the most important basic functions that interest performance-oriented athletes. Additionally, it is slightly cheaper than its successor.

Choose Polar Vantage M if:

  • You want all the basic functions on a sports watch.
  • You’re not interested in extra features such as setting up widgets on the home screen and music controls.
  • It's not important to link your watch to personalised nutrition advice.
  • You’re looking for a good sports watch with a more attractive price than the M2.
  • You’re searching for phone notification support. However, you can toggle it on and off but not fine-tune it.
