RICHMOND PARK HALF MARATHON REVIEW

The Richmond Park Half Marathon is organised by Fix Events every month in London and this was my first half marathon for 2025 as part of my year of half marathons challenge.

The event offers participants multiple race distance options, including 5k, 10k, and the half marathon providing a scenic running experience through one of London's most beautiful parks.

ON THE DAY

ROUTE

richmond park half marathon route

The half marathon is 4 laps and a bit laps of a slightly undulating course around Richmond park. Before you start your 4 laps you complete a small turn around section to the beginning of Sawyers Hill.

The first 2.5km of each lap is the toughest part as it is the most undulating part, but its not that bad. You can pick up a bit of speed in the later part of the lap as it is flat with down hill sections as well.

I quite enjoyed the 4 laps as it meant I got to see my cheer squad every time I completed a lap and they didn't get to bored either!

The 3rd and 4th lap was a bit busier with runners as the 5km and 10km races start an hour later after the half marathon. This did mean a little bit of weaving at the busiest points but in general it was not a problem.

You can view my Strava activity HERE to see elevations and course detail.

The route is mostly compacted trail paths with some tarmac roads and paths.

There was a really tiny section of small puddles and mud on some of the trail paths but you could run around them quite easily.

I saw plenty of people wearing their super shoes on the course without problem.

THE START

richmond park half marathon start

You start and finish in the same place. The start is near the East Sheen Gate, off Sheen Lane.

Your see the big inflatable start and finish tunnel as you enter the park.

WATER STATIONS

There is a small water station at the beginning of each lap with small recyclable paper cups of water.

PACERS

There were no pacers for this event.

TOILETS

There are 6 portable toilets at the start/finish area and their are public toilets at the entrance of the park as well.

WEATHER

It was a really cold January day at just 2 degrees! It was quite bitter when we started but once you got going your sheltered from the trees and walls a lot of the course.

However Fix Events run this event every month and it will depend on what time of year you run it.

GETTING THERE

Your event email tells you all the details you need on how to get there.

Personally we got an Uber from our hotel and were dropped off and picked up outside the entrance gate of Sheen Lane.

The main Richmond train station is around 20 to 30 minutes walk away or Mortlake station is the closest station and is 10 minutes walk away.

PARKING

Parking is limited at the venue but there was spaces at the East Sheen Car park when I went. I suspect this might be busier in the warmer months though.

HOTEL

We stayed at The Selwyn hotel in Richmond and was around a 10 minute Uber away.

There are number of other hotels near the park that I would consider as well.

AFTER THE EVENT

MEDAL

I am not particularly fussed by medals but I thought this medal was pretty cool and it looks really well made.

T-SHIRT

Your entry does not include an event t-shirt but they are available to buy on the day. I did not buy one but I think event t-shirts are £25 from memory.

PHOTOS

There is not a event photographer, or at least there was not the day I did it.

SUPPORT

There is plenty of support as you complete each lap from supporters of people taking part and the event Compère.

You do get encouragement from the marshals on the course and the odd dog walker but other than that it is quite quiet.

PRICE

The entry price was £25.

This includes chip timing results, your medal and water/sweets during and at the end of the course.

It does not includes t-shirt, goody bag or event photos though.

WHO ORGANISES IT?

The Richmond Park Half Marathon is organised by The Fix Events.

HOW TO ENTER

You can enter via the The Fix Events website.

WOULD I ENTER AGAIN?

Yes! I thought it was pretty good value for a event in London. It is not the fastest of courses but it is a lovely park to run around and would imagine on a slightly warmer day would of been even better.

THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND

  • Parking can be limited. Either get their early, dropped off or stay near by.
  • There is a bag drop where you can leave your stuff.
  • Whilst it is trail paths you would be ok with normal road shoes.
  • Most of the cafes in the park open at 8AM so you can get their early but they are around 15 minutes walk away from the entrance.
