The Pulsio Thermasleep system is a budget friendly, water cooled and heated mattress topper that lets you set different temperatures for each side of the bed, offering an accessible alternative to premium systems like Eight Sleep for sleepers.
It skips the heavy “smart” features in favour of straightforward, manual temperature control at a much lower price point.
The Pulsio Thermasleep is perfect if you overheat at night or argue over the bedroom thermostat, giving each sleeper their own controllable climate zone.
It sits on top of your existing mattress and uses a compact water unit to actively cool or warm your bed throughout the night.
Pulsio Thermasleep at a Glance
- Who it is for: Runners and athletes who struggle with overheating or muscle stiffness at night, couples who argue over the bedroom thermostat, and anyone wanting active bed-cooling without paying the premium for an Eight Sleep system.
- Price: £449.99 to £799.99 (Depending on bed size and whether you choose single, full, or dual zone coverage).
- Key Features: Manual water cooled and heated mattress topper, fits any existing mattress, dual zone climate control.
- The Verdict: A highly effective, pragmatic, and budget friendly sleep solution. While it lacks the fancy app integrations and sleep tracking of its more expensive rivals, it absolutely nails its core job—giving you a perfectly chilled (or warmed) bed for optimal recovery, for a fraction of the cost.
WHAT IS THE PULSIO THERMASLEEP SYSTEM?
Pulsio Thermasleep is a smart, water pod mattress cover that circulates temperature controlled water through thin channels to maintain your chosen sleep temperature.
It is positioned as a more affordable, simpler competitor to high end sleep tech like Eight Sleep, focusing on comfort rather than in depth sleep tracking.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?

I bought the super king Thermasleep with dual side control and includes:
- The mattress topper cover that fits over your existing mattress.
- 2 x water pod units that heats or cools the circulating water.
- Hoses and connectors to link the pod to the cover
- Power cables
- 2 x controllers
- Quick start guide and basic maintenance instructions for filling, flushing and descaling the system.
If your opt for single or full coverage you will only have 1 water pod and 1 controller.
PLEASE NOTE: You need to buy distilled water to fill the pods. I bought this distilled water from Amazon.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

Thermasleep works by pumping cooled or heated water from the pod through channels in the mattress cover, absorbing excess body heat when set to cool and adding gentle warmth when set to heat.
Because it actively maintains the set temperature all night, it can be more consistent than relying on room heating, fans or passive cooling mattresses.
We previously had an portable air conditioning unit in our bedroom in the summer months and whilst it was great at keeping us cool, it was noisy and left you with a dry throat.
By putting the Thermasleep to its lowest setting it keeps you cool enough even on hot summers nights.
DOES IT COOL AND HEAT BOTH SIDES?
The Thermasleep cover is available in dual zone versions that let you set one side of the bed cooler and the other warmer, so couples can sleep at different temperatures.
Each side has its own controllable zone, which is a core part of the appeal for partners who sleep “hot” and “cold” in the same bed.
My wife likes to have her side nice and warm during the winter, where as I like to have a steady cool temperature so I don't overheat.
For me this is probably the best feature about the system.
WHAT SIZES ARE AVAILABLE?
The system is designed to fit common bed sizes such as Double, King and Super King, and works with “any mattress”. You do not need a specific mattress for it to go on.
This makes it suitable for fitting your existing mattress without changing your current bed setup.
Ours fitted over our super king Simba mattress perfected.
HOW TO SET IT UP
WAS IT EASY TO SET UP?
It was really easy to set up. You simply place the cover of your mattress, connect the tubes to your pods. Add some distilled water to you pods and turn it on!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?
The system begins to noticeably change the bed temperature within 5 to 10 minutes, with the mattress surface reaching a comfortable range fairly quickly after you switch it on or adjust it.
We typically turn it on 30 minutes before getting ready for bed, so it feels ready as soon as you lie down.
MY TESTING EXPERIENCE
I have had the Pulsio Thermasleep for over a year now. For me, it really comes into its own during the hot summer months but my wife loves it for the winter months.
SUMMER
I bought the Pulsio Thermasleep mainly for the cooling mattress feature, preventing the need for the mobile air con unit we use.
I tend to switch it on around 30 minutes before bed, typically the temperature on the pod will be reading 30 odd degrees, I set it to coldest setting of 12 degrees and by the time I get into bed it's normally around 14 degrees. If you turn it on earlier it would probably drop more.
Don't expect it to be freezing cold getting into bed, it is'nt, it's just really pleasantly cool and stays cool all night.
After a hard session, your legs are tired or your feeling hot, the cooling effect just seems to help me settle so much quicker. I can sleep all the way through without waking in a pool of sweat or needing to use the air con.
Its also cheaper to run the cooling feature of the mattress topper than running the air con unit.
WINTER
I must admit It is nice to get into a nice warm bed during the cold winter months, especially after a run in the freezing cold, you've had a nice warm shower to warm up and get into a warm bed is really nice touch I have come to appreciate.
I tend to keep my side of the bed at steady 20 degrees as I do not like being too hot.
My wife on the other hand loves the heating feature and will warm her side of the bed up to 30 to 35 degrees and is snug as bug all night.
As we have heating oil to run our central heating system, it is significantly cheaper to run the heating on the mattress topper than have our radiators on in the bedroom all night.
PULSIO THERMASLEEP Vs EIGHT SLEEP
A CHEAPER EIGHT SLEEP ALTERNATIVE?
| Feature | Pulsio Thermasleep | Eight Sleep (Pod 4/5) |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront Price | £449.99 – £799.99 (depending on size/zones) | £2,249 – £2,800+ (depending on size) |
| Subscription Fees | None (£0/month) | Required in year one (Approx. £17 - £33/month) |
| Temperature Control | Manual adjustments via provided controllers | AI-driven (Autopilot) automatically adjusts throughout the night |
| Dual Zone Heating & Cooling | Yes (Available on Dual control models) | Yes (Standard on all models) |
| Sleep Tracking Metrics | None (Focuses solely on climate control) | Extensive (Heart rate, HRV, sleep stages, snoring detection) |
| Smart Home / App Integration | No app connectivity | Fully managed via smartphone app with smart alarms |
| System Type | Water circulating mattress topper with bedside pods | Water circulating smart cover with connected hub |
Pulsio is pretty much a quarter of the price of the cheapest Eight Sleep system.
However compared with Eight Sleep’s Pod systems, this is because Thermasleep focuses on manual temperature control and leaves out advanced features like sleep stage tracking, AI‑driven auto adjustments and integrated health metrics.
Eight Sleep offers app based smart automation, snoring and elevation features and detailed sleep analytics at a much higher price, while Thermasleep is a budget friendly, non smart option that simply keeps each side of the bed at the temperature you set.
HOW MUCH IS IT?
The Pulsio Thermasleep system starts at £449.99 depending on if you choose single, dual or full bed configuration and which size you choose.
I bought the super king dual control system, which was £799.99.
WHERE TO BUY?
You can buy the Pulsio thermasleep direct from the Pulsio website.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you wash the Pulsio Thermasleep cover? Yes. The Pulsio Thermasleep mattress pad is fully machine washable. Simply detach the hoses from the water pod, ensure the water is drained from the cover, and wash it on a cold, delicate cycle. It is recommended to air dry the cover to prevent any damage to the internal water channels.
How much electricity does the Pulsio Thermasleep use? The Thermasleep system is highly energy efficient, using significantly less electricity than a portable air conditioning unit or central heating. Because it directly cools or heats the bed rather than the entire room, it typically costs just pennies per night to run, making it a budget-friendly long-term sleep solution.
What maintenance does the Pulsio Thermasleep require? To keep the system running efficiently and quietly, you must only use distilled water in the pod (tap water will cause mineral build-up). Pulsio recommends periodically flushing and descaling the system every few months using their provided instructions to keep the water channels clear and hygienic.
Do I need a special mattress to use the Thermasleep? No, you do not need a specific mattress. The Thermasleep cover acts as a standard mattress topper and fits securely over any existing Double, King, or Super King mattress.
CONCLUSION

For runners who want a reliable temperature control and dual zone comfort without spending four figures to help them with their sleep, the Pulsio Thermasleep system is an appealing, pragmatic choice.
It cannot match Eight Sleep’s smart tracking and automation, but as a more affordable, straightforward way to stop overheating or shivering at night, it represents strong value for money.
