I’m Vicky. I’ve been running regularly for around 7 years, although only competitively and with a club for 4. I’m currently training for Lisbon marathon where I hope to run sub 3 hours. Controversial marathons are my favourite distance and the distance which gives me the most satisfaction. Often resulting in my crying at every finish line.

Myself and my very close friend Justine, have an Instagram page @girlsreallyrun where we share all things running (and the bits in between)!

NIKE STREAKFLY

Nike describe the trainer as a road racing shoe, best for one mile, 5km and 10km.

Most of the people I run with on track were using the streakfly as an alternative to a carbon plated shoe. I had heard good things; particularly how light and comfortable they feel.

Read on to find out why.

THE HEEL

The Streakfly’s have a small, external heel counter and a large padded internal component that wraps around the length of the heel bone. This creates a comfort fit around the heel and prevents heel slippage.

For me this is important as I have sensitive feet which are prone to blisters, however I found them comfortable from the offset, no blisters and no real breaking in period.

THE UPPERS

The Nike Streakfly’s upper feels very roomy especially in the midfoot and toe box which suits me perfectly as I have quite wide feet. The upper is also hyper-thin so you can almost see your socks through the material which I found helpful in terms of ventilation, no sweaty feet.

I think if you had lighter coloured trainers, you’d probably be able to completely see your socks.

The tongue is attached to an inner sleeve, so it stays in place, and the lacing area is offset like the Vaporfly’s which relieves pressure on the top of the foot. I personally found the design of the trainer really comfortable and airy.

THE OUTSOLE

The forefoot is covered in thick, but soft ribbed rubber with two vertical stripes on the rearfoot protecting the outer heel.

The ribbed rubber creates good grip, particularly when running in wet conditions.

Considering I mostly use these for track sessions, they have not worn down and have plenty of miles left in them.

THE MIDSOLE

There is no carbon plate on the Streakfly but the midsole is made up of Zoomx foam and a midfoot shank, meaning they are incredibly soft, responsive and comfortable.

By not having a carbon plate, I felt it enhanced the shoes’ ability to turn corners, which is great for running on the track and not losing speed around the bends.

The shoe is also incredibly flexible which supports your foot rock forward. As the trainer has a high rate of compression you get a high level of ground feel, which although comfortable for shorter distances I don’t think they bring much protection on runs over 10km.

HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?

My trainer is size 6 and weighs approx. 150g and feel extremely light.

HOW DO THEY FIT?

I found the trainers to be true to size, albeit on the roomier side. They have a wider toe box than similar trainer such as the Adidas Takumi Sen 8, but that suits me better.

HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

The Nike Streakflys retail at £144.99 which I think is a reasonable price for a fast light trainer which can be both a racing shoe and a training shoe.

CONCLUSION

The Streakfly is a light, flexible and comfortable trainer which pushes you forward for them faster miles. I think they are a great training shoe and I do all my track training in them.

However, due to the high rate of compression I personally don’t find them as comfortable on the road and therefore wouldn’t race in them as I feel the impact too much.

Although, I would race in them on the track. I think they are good value for money and a great alternative to carbon trainers for faster miles, particularly as I try to minimise the amount I train in carbons to save them for race day.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM?

Yes, the Streakflys play an essential role in my shoe rotation and it’s a trainer that I stock up on in fear of them being discontinued.

They have the ability to be great for both training and racing whilst being good value for money.
